Connolly opens on landscape alone so the drought is established as the film's governing condition before any character can frame it for us.

The title appears over parched, cracked ground. An aerial follows one straight road across bleached paddocks toward a small town, ending on Falk driving in. There is no dialogue.

Land emptied of colour and movement reads as exhaustion and endurance, and the single road running to a single town suggests a place with no way around itself.
AAudience
We arrive already understanding the pressure everyone in the town is under, which lets the film spend its dialogue elsewhere.
